Deco Silver, Gold and Opal Brooch/ Necklace
This piece was a very special commission for… me! I bought the beautifully cut Ethiopian Welo Opal some time ago with the intention of making it into a ring however, I also wanted to make a multifunction piece of jewellery and this design seemed the perfect solution.
I love everything about the 1920s and 30s and Art Deco design. Geometric patterns which can be so simple but complex in their proportions were used in everything from couture, textiles, furniture, architecture and jewellery that have made the designs timeless and refreshingly contemporary.
The brooch has a detachable chain enabling it to be worn as a necklace. I love how the 18carat gold sets off the colour flashes in the opal against the textured silver. I am really very pleased with the first piece of jewellery I have designed and made just for me and I wear it often.
