Layered Leaves Ring

Rosie is a friend of my younger daughter and disappointingly her 21st birthday has just fallen in the middle of the Covid 19 lockdown. Rosie’s mum got in touch with me to ask if I could make her a ring for her parents to give to Rosie. Not expecting it to be made in time for her birthday, I knew how disappointed my daughter would have been not to be able to enjoy the usual celebrations, so I set to making it straight away.

The request was for an oxidised silver band ring with layered leaves wrapping around it. Cut from silver sheet, individual leaves were hand filed and sanded down before each one was curved to fit the base ring and soldered in to place and engraved – a new skill which I had to learn as I went! Continuing the process until all leaves were in place and engraved, I then oxidised the ring to enhance the depth and bring out the detail of the veining.

Hand delivered on the morning of Rosie’s birthday, she posted on Instagram to say that it was ‘the kindest pressie ever from my grandparents made by my Bestie’s mum’ and later messaging me to say ‘Honestly, I can’t express how thankful I am!! You’re so kind to have made it so quickly.’

I really was just pleased to have enabled a landmark birthday to be celebrated as it should be.
