Moonstone Bangle

Silver, Gold and Moonstone Open Bangle

Al first contacted me about 6 months before this special 50th birthday bangle was needed to allow us both time to come up with a very personal design. With clear ideas about wanting to incorporate his wife’s interests and taste, and because I have also known her for many years, we made the initial design decisions together to ensure that I was going to make something that was both meaningful and practical.

Once the initial design had been agreed, I set out to create the bangle but updated and consulted with Al throughout the making process to ensure that he was involved in any changes as they arose.

The bangle features Lucy’s birthstone, moonstones – the blue tinged iridescence representing her love of the sea. Rectangular stones were chosen and set in repeat patterns to echo her love of the Arts and Craft movement. Using a photograph of his Lucy’s engagement ring, I had an additional reference point to work from ensuring that the bangle would complement it when worn together. The finished Ecosilver stone-set bangle features gold bars between each moonstone in a reverse of the engagement ring’s colourway and gold end caps at the opening.

5oth Birthday Moonstone Bangle

Finished and hallmarked in plenty of time, Alastair managed to keep it a secret and gifted the bangle to his wife on her very special birthday. I am pleased to say that she was delighted and even more so when she learned of all the significance and references of their life together.
